Firefighter Employment Information
and Application Process

  Minimum Qualifications:

	18 years old
	High School Diploma or GED

  Salary and Benefits:

Starting Salary: $25,000

  Work Schedule:

	1 day (24 hours) on, 2 days (48 hours) off.
	11 paid holidays (equivalents).
	Earn up to five weeks vacation.
	1 day sick leave accumilated per month of service.

  Blue Cross/Blue Shield Major Medical:

80/20 comprehensive. Dental plan. Optional family coverage.

Life Insurance:

	One and one half annual salary, at no cost to employee; additional insurance available at competitive rates.
	Three months waiting period.

  Retirement Benefits:

City pays 85%, employee pays 15% of TCRS retirement system. Five (5) years for full vesting.

  Application Process:

A written test is offered each year or so. Submit city application form for the test before the published deadline. The test is a nationally recognized standardized exam that includes a study guide. Applicants must score 70% to be considered further.

Applicants who pass the written test will be required to submit a completed background information packet. They will then have their applications reviewed by the Fire Chief or his designates and may be considered for an oral review board. Applicants receiving interviews by the board will be ranked and considered for vacancies for one year. (A second year of eligibility may be requested).

Finalists will be required to pass a post offer of employment physical exam and agility test before assuming employment duties.
