The Martin
Fire Department firefighter reserve program consists of 10-15 members
that receive a starting salary of $75.00 per month.
To be considered as a reserve firefighter, candidates must fill out an
application, pass
a Martin Fire Department respiratory protection evaluation, and complete and pass a
physical agility test. The candidates must be of good character and live within the Martin
Fire Department response area. When all requirements are met the candidate must
interview with the Fire Chief to be approved. Upon being selected as a reserve, the
firefighter is required to attend 40 hours of training before being activated in the line
of
service. The reserve must maintain a minimun of 4 hours of training per month. Reserves
receive the same training as a career firefighter and are required to work a 12 hour shift
each month at the fire department.
A reserve who has completed all requirements and is actived for duty will
be issued
personal protective gear and a voice pager. When a reserve is paged out for a fire call
they are to report to the senior fire officer in charge of the incident. They could be
assigned any variety of tasks. A reserve will be issued a policy and procedure manual
and is required to obey all policies and procedures set forth by the Martin Fire
Department.
